Bali is home to over 10,000 temples, which are known as pura in Balinese. Temples are at the heart of Balinese life, and they are used for religious ceremonies and community gatherings. Some of the most famous temples in Bali include Besakih Temple, Tanah Lot Temple, and Uluwatu Temple.
Despite their distinct appearances, all Balinese temples adhere to three fundamental principles of design philosophy: maintaining a subtle connection between humans and the divine, fostering positive interactions with the natural environment, and cultivating an open and friendly social atmosphere — a harmonious blend. Functioning as places of worship, these temples receive meticulous care, reflecting their paramount importance in Balinese society.
In every Balinese village, at least three public temples exist:
Pura Puseh (Temple of Origin): Dedicated to honoring the God of Creation, Brahma.
Pura Desa Bale Agung: Built to pay homage to the God of Life, Wisnu.
Pura Dalem: Revering the God of Death and Reincarnation, Siwa Durga.
Visitors, dressed appropriately in sarongs, are welcomed to explore certain temple sections with respect. However, the inner sanctum of sacred temples is reserved for religious activities, creating an atmosphere where the divine and earthly worlds intersect.
You will be treated like family. Your safety and enjoyment is our primary mission. We are excited to meet you!.
